Tillandsia Aeranthos × Tenuifolia ‘Amethyst’
The Tillandsia Aeranthos × Tenuifolia ‘Amethyst’ is an attractive ornamental hybrid belonging to the Bromeliaceae family, resulting from the cross between Tillandsia Aeranthos and a selection of Tillandsia Tenuifolia known as ‘Amethyst’. This hybrid combines the hardiness and vigor of Aeranthos with the compact structure and intense flowering characteristic of Tenuifolia.
The parent species are native to Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Argentina, where they grow naturally as epiphytic plants on tree branches, trunks, or rocks in well-ventilated environments with abundant light. Thanks to this genetic heritage, the hybrid exhibits great adaptability and balanced growth.
The Tillandsia Aeranthos × Tenuifolia ‘Amethyst’ forms compact rosettes of narrow, grayish-green leaves, covered by trichomes that allow the plant to absorb moisture and nutrients directly from the air. Over time, it usually produces pups, forming small, highly ornamental clusters.
During the flowering season, usually in spring or early summer, it develops pink or reddish bracts from which intense violet or purple tubular flowers emerge, creating a striking contrast that gives the ‘Amethyst’ variety its name.
Due to its hardiness and ornamental appeal, the Tillandsia Aeranthos × Tenuifolia ‘Amethyst’ is ideal for open terrariums, vertical gardens, tillandsia collections, or decorative displays on wood, cork, or stone.
