Tillandsia Holm’s Malleginosa
The Tillandsia Holm’s Malleginosa is an attractive ornamental hybrid belonging to the Bromeliaceae family, highly valued for its intense coloration, compact growth, and ease of cultivation. It is an air plant ideal for both collectors and beginners.
This hybrid is part of the renowned Holm’s group of hybrids and comes from a cross between Tillandsia Ionantha and Tillandsia Mallemontii, combining the best of both species.
Tillandsia Ionantha, native to Mexico and Central America, contributes its ability to acquire intense reddish tones, its resilience, and its rapid production of offsets, easily forming clusters.
Meanwhile, Tillandsia Mallemontii, native to South America (primarily Paraguay and Argentina), stands out for its softer, finer leaves, more delicate growth, and characteristic fragrant violet blooms, adding elegance to the hybrid.
Thanks to this genetic combination, the Tillandsia Holm’s Malleginosa develops compact rosettes with fine, slightly soft leaves, greyish-green in color that can transform into reddish or pinkish tones with good lighting.
During the flowering season, generally in spring or summer, it produces violet tubular flowers, which may have a light fragrance inherited from Mallemontii, making it even more special.
Its growth is moderate and it produces offsets easily, forming dense, highly decorative clusters.
Thanks to its combination of color, texture, and ease of care, it is ideal for open terrariums, collections, vertical gardens, or mounting on wood and cork.
