Tillandsia Old Man´s Gold

The Tillandsia Old Man´s Gold is an attractive ornamental hybrid belonging to the Bromeliaceae family, highly prized for its silvery appearance, soft texture, and great resistance to dry conditions. It is an air plant ideal for collectors and those looking for easy-to-maintain tillandsias.

This hybrid comes from the cross between Tillandsia Tectorum and Tillandsia Xerographica, combining two species highly adapted to conditions of high light and low humidity.

The Tillandsia Tectorum, native to Peru and Ecuador, contributes its high density of trichomes, whitish appearance, and extraordinary resistance to drought, being one of the species most adapted to extreme environments.

For its part, the Tillandsia Xerographica, native to Mexico and Central America, contributes its structural bearing, wider leaves, and more robust growth, adding presence and size to the hybrid.

Thanks to this genetic combination, the Tillandsia Old Man´s Gold develops medium-sized rosettes with leaves covered in abundant trichomes, of a light silvery color, with a soft texture and a very decorative appearance.

Its growth is slow but stable, and over time it can produce pups, forming ornamental clusters.

During the flowering season, it can develop a central inflorescence with pinkish or reddish tones and violet flowers, inheriting characteristics from both parental species.

Thanks to its resistance, low maintenance, and unique aesthetics, the Tillandsia Old Man´s Gold is ideal for decoration with air plants, very bright environments, specialized collections, or mounting on wood and stone.
