Tillandsia Tenuifolia Vaginata × Tenuifolia ‘Amethyst’
The Tillandsia Tenuifolia Vaginata × Tenuifolia ‘Amethyst’ is an attractive ornamental hybrid belonging to the Bromeliaceae family, the result of crossing two forms of Tillandsia Tenuifolia. This hybrid combines the more compact and robust structure of the Vaginata form with the intensity of color and flowering of ‘Amethyst’, resulting in a highly decorative and balanced plant.
The Tillandsia Tenuifolia, native to Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Argentina, is a very variable species widely used in hybridization. The Vaginata form is characterized by its more compact growth, somewhat stiffer leaves, and more orderly structure, providing stability to the hybrid.
For its part, the ‘Amethyst’ selection stands out for its more intense coloration and its showy flowering, with more marked tones in the bracts and flowers, which adds great ornamental value.
Thanks to this genetic combination, the Tillandsia Tenuifolia Vaginata × Tenuifolia ‘Amethyst’ develops compact rosettes of thin and slightly stiff leaves, with an attractive green color that can intensify with good lighting. Over time it produces pups, forming dense and highly decorative clusters.
During the flowering season, usually in spring or summer, it develops inflorescences with pink or reddish bracts and violet tubular flowers, displaying a more intense coloration inherited from ‘Amethyst’.
Thanks to its compact size, hardiness, and attractive color, this hybrid is ideal for tillandsia collections, open terrariums, decorative arrangements, or mountings on wood and cork.
