Tillandsia Dura

The Tillandsia Dura is an interesting botanical species belonging to the Bromeliaceae family, highly valued for its resilience, stiff leaves, and structured growth. It is an ideal air plant for collectors and cultivation in bright conditions.

This species is native to South America (mainly Bolivia and Argentina), where it grows naturally as an epiphytic or saxicolous plant in high-light, well-ventilated, and dry to temperate climates, adapting well to demanding conditions.

The Tillandsia Dura develops compact to slightly open rosettes with elongated, firm, and stiff leaves, grayish-green in color with trichomes, which allows it to withstand periods of drought.

Its structure is more rigid and defined than other fine-leaved tillandsias, providing a more solid aesthetic.

Its growth is moderate and over time it produces pups, forming compact clusters.

During the flowering season, generally in spring or summer, it develops an inflorescence with reddish or pinkish bracts and violet tubular flowers, creating an attractive contrast.

Thanks to its resistance and form, the Tillandsia Dura is ideal for collections, mounts on wood or stone, decoration in bright environments, or spaces with somewhat drier conditions, where it thrives without difficulty.

SUPPORT / BARK NOT INCLUDED

The Tillandsia Dura is an exotic plant native to Brazil that stands out for its resilience and unique appearance.

Its narrow, pointed leaves form a dense, deep green rosette, which can take on pink or purple hues in more intense light conditions.

This air plant does not require substrate, as it absorbs nutrients and moisture directly from the air through its trichomes, tiny structures that cover its leaves.

Main characteristics:

In its inflorescence, it produces a central stem shaped like a narrow feather, composed of very intense red bracts, from which its wonderful pink-toned flowers emerge, offering a spectacular color contrast.

Care:

This specimen gets its name from its great resistance and ability to adapt to numerous types of environments. To keep it happy and healthy, keep the following tips in mind:

Light: Prefers bright but indirect light. Avoid direct sun exposure, especially in hot climates.

Watering: Misting with water is essential for its survival. Submerge the plant in water for 1 to 1.5 hours every 1-2 weeks, depending on the ambient humidity. Gently shake to remove excess water and avoid letting it pool in the center of the plant.

Air: Air circulation is fundamental. Place the Tillandsia Dura in a spot where it can receive gentle air currents.

Temperature: Prefers temperatures between 15°C and 30°C. Protect it from frost and extremely cold temperatures.

Feeding: Once a month, you can provide a diluted fertilizer specifically for bromeliads. Spray the fertilizer onto the leaves during one of the waterings.

Use and decoration:

The Tillandsia Dura is perfect for adding an exotic and modern touch to your home or office. You can hang it on decorative supports, place it in glass bowls, or integrate it into your terrarium projects, vertical gardens, or floral arrangements. Its versatility makes it a popular choice for gifts and as a centerpiece in any space.
