It is a hybrid created in 1994 from the species Tillandsia limbata and Tillandsia bulbosa.

The Tillandsia ‘Durrell’ develops compact rosettes of narrow to medium, firm, and slightly arched leaves, gray-green in color with the presence of trichomes.
