Tillandsia Fresnilloensis
The Tillandsia Fresnilloensis is an interesting botanical species belonging to the Bromeliaceae family, highly valued for its compact size, silvery coloration, and great resistance to dry conditions. It is an air plant ideal for collectors and lovers of xerophytic tillandsias.
This species is endemic to Mexico and is distributed in areas such as Zacatecas and Jalisco, where it grows as a saxicolous plant on rocky areas or in dry tropical forest and open pine forest environments, typically in arid or temperate conditions.
The Tillandsia Fresnilloensis develops compact rosettes of leaves that are relatively wide for their size, channeled, and covered in abundant trichomes, which gives it its characteristic silvery-gray tone and allows it to adapt very well to intense light and low humidity. It is also botanically related to Tillandsia karwinskyana, although it is clearly differentiated by its own floral characteristics.
Its growth is slow to moderate and, over time, it can produce pups, forming small, compact, and highly decorative clusters.
During the flowering season, generally between spring and early summer, it develops a very showy floral spike, frequently of an intense reddish color, accompanied by yellow or yellowish-green bracts. The flowers appear adpressed to the rachis, and in the descriptions consulted they are mentioned in greenish tones, while other sources describe the scape with a pale lilac hue and delicate tubular flowers.
Thanks to its resistance, its size, and its distinctive flowering, the Tillandsia Fresnilloensis is ideal for collections, mounts on stone or wood, and decoration in very bright or dry environments, where it can show off both its silvery rosette and its striking blooms.
