Tillandsia Mathudae
The Tillandsia Mathudae is an epiphytic air plant species native to Central America, although it is found mainly in Mexico at an altitude of about 2000 meters. It is a tillandsia highly valued for its elegant bearing, its dense structure, and its great ornamental value. In addition, it is a plant that can sometimes be confused with the Tillandsia Velickiana, although it maintains a very distinct personality of its own.
It features a set of very flexible and dense leaves, with broad sheaths, triangular and grooved in shape, which gives it an enveloping and highly decorative silhouette. Its bearing is balanced and attractive, with a natural presence that works very well both in collections and when mounted on natural supports.
Its appearance is partly reminiscent of other soft-leaved, open-structured tillandsias, but it stands out for the elegance of its foliage and for that sense of being a light yet well-formed plant. It is a highly ornamental species, ideal for bright and ventilated spaces where it can display the full beauty of its leaves and its natural form.
During flowering, which usually occurs between May and October, it develops a very showy inflorescence in which green or yellow flowers may appear, and sometimes also with reddish hues. In other cultivated forms, orange and yellow shades are also observed, so the floral display can be particularly attractive and variable depending on the specimen.
Thanks to its flexible leaves, its dense structure, its elegant bearing, and its ornamental flowering, the Tillandsia Mathudae is an excellent choice for those looking for a decorative, bright air plant with a refined appearance.
