Tillandsia Mystic Trumpet
The Tillandsia Mystic Trumpet (Albertiana x Xiphioides) is an elegant ornamental hybrid that is part of the Mystic series, a group of hybrids in which Tillandsia albertiana is always a protagonist, created by Mark Dimmitt in the 80s. Within this series, one can also find such well-known specimens as Tillandsia Mystic Burgundy and Tillandsia Mystic Markus, which places this plant within a group especially valued for its beauty and personality.
It presents a well-defined rosette, with narrow, firm, and slightly curved leaves of a grayish-green tone, which give it a compact, tidy, and highly decorative silhouette. Its structure is balanced and elegant, maintaining a very attractive presence even when not in bloom.
The name “Trumpet” is a direct reference to the shape of its flowers, as it develops a bloom with an open tubular appearance, similar to a small trumpet. This trait is one of the most distinctive features of this hybrid and gives it a very strong identity within the Mystic series.
During blooming, it produces an impressive inflorescence with large flowers for the group, in tones that are usually pinkish, although peach or maroon hues can also appear. The ensemble very attractively combines the chromatic intensity of Albertiana with the floral elegance of Xiphioides, resulting in an especially showy bloom.
Thanks to its membership in the Mystic series, its compact habit, its characteristic floral shape, and its elegant blooming in warm pink tones, the Tillandsia Mystic Trumpet is an excellent choice for those looking for an original, refined air plant with a lot of personality.
