Tillandsia Purpurea Type 9
The Tillandsia Purpurea Type 9 is a form of Tillandsia purpurea, a botanical species native to Peru, highly valued for its elegant bearing, its narrow and arched leaves and, above all, for its intensely fragrant flowering.
This species grows in very particular habitats, including coastal desert zones, rocky areas, and also Andean environments, and can appear as an epiphyte, saxicole, or terrestrial plant depending on the location. This adaptation explains its good tolerance to intense light, rapid drying, and relatively austere cultivation conditions.
The Tillandsia purpurea develops an elongated and elegant rosette, with ensiform-subulate and recurved leaves, which gives it a very decorative and light silhouette. In cultivation, the different forms or “types,” such as this Type 9, are usually selected for differences in size, curvature, coloration, or ornamental presence.
Its growth is moderate and, over time, it produces pups, forming more voluminous specimens. As a species, it is considered relatively easy to cultivate when it receives plenty of light, ventilation, and correct drying after watering.
During flowering, it develops a branched or polystachious inflorescence, with pinkish tones on the spike and purple petals, accompanied by a strong and very pleasant perfume, one of the most distinctive features of the species.
Thanks to its elegance, its resistance, and its spectacular aromatic flowering, the Tillandsia Purpurea Type 9 is ideal for collections, decorative displays, cultivation in very bright interiors or in protected outdoors with excellent ventilation.
