Tillandsia White Star
The Tillandsia White Star is an attractive ornamental hybrid belonging to the Bromeliaceae family, highly valued for its symmetrical rosette, silvery coloration, and elegant flowering. It is an ideal air plant for both collectors and those looking for a decorative, hardy, and easy-to-maintain tillandsia. Its parentage as a cross between Tillandsia Ixioides × Tillandsia Recurvifolia is documented in several cultivation and registration references.
The Tillandsia Ixioides, native to southern South America, contributes its more open habit, rigid silvery leaves, and a clear, elegant flowering, typically with yellow flowers, to the hybrid. The Tillandsia Recurvifolia, also South American, contributes its more compact growth, great hardiness, abundance of leaves, and ease of forming clusters over time. Various commercial and grower descriptions also indicate that White Star resembles Ixioides more in general shape, although with a denser rosette and pinker bracts.
Thanks to this genetic combination, the Tillandsia White Star develops a broad, symmetrical, and highly ornamental rosette, with somewhat rigid, silvery-gray leaves covered in trichomes. Its clean, star-like appearance is precisely what gives this variety its name.
During the flowering season, typically in spring or summer, it produces a pink spike with yellow flowers, a very attractive and less common combination than in other hybrids of the genus.
Thanks to its hardiness, silvery color, and balanced shape, the Tillandsia White Star is perfect for decoration with air plants, collections, vertical gardens, or mounts on wood and cork, providing an elegant and very natural look.
